LunarPing, published by Shekhar Roy, helps you explore the sky and set celestial-event and clock alarms. This policy explains how the app handles your information. Contact [email protected] with privacy questions or support requests.

01Location and saved information

Sun, Moon, planet, event and geographic time-zone calculations run on your device. You can enter coordinates manually without granting location permission. Device detection requests approximate or precise foreground location only after you choose it. Detection is bounded and stops when you leave it; the app does not track location in the background.

The app stores your selected coordinates, IANA time zone, optional place name/icon, alarm rules and their locations, alarm delivery/ringing state, preferences and sky targets in private app storage. Alarm locations remain saved independently of the active observer. This information remains until you change/delete it or clear the app’s storage. A bounded cache retains up to 32 resolved place names, rounded coordinate keys and locale until evicted or app storage is cleared. Core coordinates retain full precision.

02Optional place names

Place-name lookup starts on in supported opt-out regions and off in consent-first or uncertain regions. You can change it in Settings → Location & privacy; your saved choice always takes precedence. When enabled, selected coordinates and language may be passed to your device’s place-name service. That device-dependent service may process requests online under its provider’s terms and privacy policy. Its availability, retention and transport are outside this app’s control. Turning the option off prevents new lookups and discards canceled results, but cannot recall a request already sent. Saved names continue to work offline. You may enter your own label instead.

03Camera and orientation

Camera Finder uses the rear camera for a live preview only. The app does not record, save or upload camera images. Orientation and magnetic sensors help estimate direction while the relevant screen is active. They are released when no longer needed. These readings are not uploaded by the app. Camera alignment and predictions have stated limitations and must not be used for safety-critical navigation or viewing the Sun directly.

04Notifications, alarms and lock screen

Notifications, precise-alarm access and lock-screen alarm presentation are controlled by Android and your choices. Ringing notifications use private visibility; Android’s lock-screen settings remain authoritative. Opening the full-screen alarm can display its place and timing. Restrict lock-screen/full-screen access if these details are sensitive. Battery restrictions, force stop, reboot before unlock, notification settings, sound policy and hardware can delay or prevent delivery.

05Optional online services and privacy choices

The offline sky map, calculations, saved places and alarms remain usable with optional services off. These services are available only when configured for the app. In supported opt-out regions they start on automatically, without a popup. They start off in consent-first or uncertain regions. Settings → Data & privacy choices provides independent choices for usage analytics, crash reports, performance diagnostics and online configuration. In consent-first or uncertain regions, an optional choice appears after at least three app sessions (sessions are separated by 30 minutes), at an appropriate quiet moment. Each switch takes effect independently and saves immediately. Done keeps your choices, including leaving everything off; Later is available. Declining does not reduce offline functionality. Later defers the prompt by two sessions. Choices are specific to a privacy-policy revision.

Regional handling uses time-zone country hints from the device and selected observing place, including places entered manually or saved after optional device detection. These hints remain local; an observing place can be remote and cannot establish your residence or legal jurisdiction. EEA, UK and Swiss hints require explicit choices. The US, Australia, New Zealand, India, Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong and Bahrain use automatic defaults for these limited, non-advertising purposes; India switches to consent-first on 13 May 2027. Other countries and unknown or conflicting hints require a choice. Defaults are reevaluated when you return to the app and are never treated as explicit consent. Existing saved choices, including refusals, take precedence for each purpose. Changing one switch does not turn the other automatic defaults into consent. In Brazil and Bahrain the limited service purposes rely on legitimate interests in app reliability and improvement, with individual opt-outs and minimized data. Japan and Hong Kong handling is limited to the disclosed purposes and applicable provider and transfer safeguards. No extra GPS fix, IP geolocation service or new location permission is used for consent decisions.

Usage sharing helps us understand which features are useful. Google processes a basic app-action event and technical app, device and session information. Advertising identifiers, ad storage, ad user data and ad personalization are disabled. The app does not add coordinates, place labels, alarm content, feedback, contact emails, images or sensor readings to analytics events. Automatic screen reporting and links between usage and crash reports are disabled. Google may process network information, technical app/device data and identifiers described in its policies.

Crash reports help us diagnose problems and are processed by Google. Automatic upload remains disabled; when crash sharing is allowed, previously captured reports are explicitly submitted on an eligible launch. Reports may include stack traces, app/device/OS details and incidental runtime information in exception messages. No custom location, camera or sensor logs are attached. Crash and performance collection starts only when its own choice allows it. Earlier locally captured crash files may remain while crash reporting is inactive; a new grant discards pre-grant reports. Declining crash sharing deletes unsent reports when the SDK is active. Android itself may retain system/crash diagnostics independently of this app.

Performance sharing helps us reduce slowdowns. Google processes sampled loading and technical timing information, including app-setting checks. No arbitrary user attributes are added. The app does not install automatic HTTP instrumentation, so feedback URL/content is not traced. Pre-consent startup tracing is unavailable by design. Shared diagnostic session collection is disabled.

Online app settings let us deliver feature improvements and update guidance through Google. This service uses an installation identifier, technical request information and network information such as IP address. The app does not upload regional hints or custom user properties for targeting. Fetches are bounded and cached; safe local defaults work if you decline or the service is unavailable. Remote flags cannot grant consent. Full withdrawal disables future collection/fetching, resets local analytics data, requests deletion of unsent crash reports and best-effort deletion of the shared installation identifier. Data already transmitted or a request already sent cannot be recalled. Previously uploaded information is subject to the applicable provider retention and deletion procedures; contact the publisher for assistance.

06Reviews and updates

Google Play handles optional native reviews and app updates under its policies. A review may be requested after repeated successful use, without asking whether you like the app or requiring a positive rating. Google controls whether a review card appears; the app cannot read your rating. Flexible updates download through Play and install when you choose. A required update policy may block the main app until a supported version is available; existing alarm delivery remains subject to Android. Review/update APIs exchange technical information with Google Play and do not receive saved sky locations or feedback content from this app.

07Feedback you choose to send

Settings → Feedback & suggestions sends the chosen category, subject, detailed message and optional contact email to FormSubmit and the publisher at [email protected]. You can disable the included app version/build, manufacturer/model, Android version and platform diagnostics. Coordinates, unique device identifiers, logs, photos and sensor values are never automatically attached. You must accept the submission disclosure before sending. Avoid including sensitive information in free text. FormSubmit receives network information such as IP address and applies its own anti-spam, processing and retention rules (https://formsubmit.co/privacy.pdf). HTTPS transport is required; no automatic background retry occurs. A successful service response confirms acceptance, not final email delivery. A timeout can occur after delivery, so a manual retry may duplicate a message. Feedback may remain in the publisher’s mailbox until the inquiry is resolved or deletion is requested, subject to applicable recordkeeping duties.

08Retention, security and deletion

Data is stored in the Android app sandbox. App backup and device-transfer extraction are disabled in the manifest and extraction rules; device manufacturers may differ. Optional service data and deliberately submitted feedback may be retained by their providers and in the publisher’s support mailbox. Delete individual alarm rules in Alarms, edit the observer in location settings, or use Android Settings → Apps → this app → Storage → Clear storage to erase all local records and caches. Clearing storage also removes saved alarms and preferences; uninstalling removes app data. Android permission settings let you revoke location, camera, notifications and special alarm access. There is no account to delete. Withdrawing an optional choice stops future eligible collection; it does not automatically erase previously uploaded provider records or an emailed message. Contact the publisher for data-access or deletion assistance. An external place-name provider’s previously processed data is governed by that provider.

09Changes and inquiries

This policy is reviewed when data handling changes. The current public policy is intended to be available at https://lunarping.com/app/privacy. For privacy inquiries, deletion questions or support, email [email protected]. No message is sent automatically by the app.
